Multifocal Lenses
Bifocals
Bifocal lenses are still very popular in some areas however they are slowly being phased out in preference to varifocal lenses. Bifocal lenses are lenses with a distinct dividing line between the distance and reading portion There are some situations and prescriptions where a bifocal is the only choice. They come in various designs from the invisible round segment to the executive flat line bifocal. Some people require three separate areas within the lens which is available as a Trifocal.
Varifocals
Or as they are now called Progressive Powered Lenses (PPL).
These lenses are usually prescribed for people over 40, however, in some cases they will be given to younger people.
They can be more accurately described as a distance lens with an intermediate & reading facility. The transition is very smooth from the distance through to the reading and unlike bifocals do not have any dividing line.
There must be hundreds of designs of varifocal lenses on the market. As an independent group we are not tied into any one manufacturer, therefore we can choose the design that is most suited to your requirements.
The ones we have found most successful are the Varilux & Nikon however if you require Zeiss, Rodenstock, Hoya, Seiko or any of the other brands we can order them.
